FROM THE HELM
A RECENT CONVERSATION WITH MYSELF
Marilyn, you're supposed to be writing a column about “things nautical” this morning . . .I know, but the sun has come out, and it's gorgeous outside. It's like spring out there.
Things nautical .... you know, write about marine musings, your love of the ocean, seaside events, and all that....
Yes, but the tide is on its way out now and I could be going for a walk.
Get a grip, Marilyn. Writing is what you could be doing.
I know, but I just heard a sea lions bark outside, and ...
And there's deadlines to consider, too. Write, Marilyn.
Well, I'll just go for a little walk first. And I better take my license, and the bucket to get some oysters, too.
I can't believe you're getting up from this computer, Marilyn. You need 500 words. You have none.
... and look at all the boats heading out - oh, there must be an opening for herring today. I better take my camera, too, and my polar fleece jacket in case I'm gone awhile.
And you think you can manage a monthly column on things nautical? Some writer you are - no discipline at all.
Yes, well, look at the action over there by the island - there must be a few hundred boats out right now - and look! There's a rainbow in the mist over there - BEAUTIFUL time for a walk on the beach.
The column, Marilyn. Things nautical. You need to write about them. NOW.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll get to that .... maybe in December.
